Eighteen months ago, in the middle of the covid pandemic, I started working with Toonz on our feature film, THE CANTERVILLE GHOST with Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie. The pandemic meant we had to get going before we had a chance to meet face-to-face. I had to run the production on faith and trust. Toonz has repaid that faith and trust in so many ways. They have been brilliant to work with on the film over the duration, stepping up to the often difficult demands of the production with grace and patience, applying their collective talent and experience until we got it right. I say “got it right” because CANTERVILLE was a difficult film to animate, its characters have human qualities, with no cartoon extremes… it’s all about the realisation of a world through an animation style that is nuanced and subtle in a series of locations that are complex and detailed. Toonz has proved to be an excellent partner as co-financiers of the film and as co-producers working through pre-production, animation and post-production. I cannot speak highly enough of them and look forward to working on future productions together
